Guru of Gang Starr

You may remember the hip-hop Gang Starr for their edgy, street wise lyrics.  Well the front man Guru, Keith Elam, suffered a severe heart attack at the age of 43 which resulted in him being in a coma.  DJ Premier, Christopher Martin, also of the group and a legendary producer confirmed the reports earlier this week on a Sirius, satellite radio.  Fortunately, Guru was able to successfully pull through his emergency heart surgery.    

Gang Starr formed in 1987 but released their first album in 1989, No More Mr. Nice Guy.  The group released several albums throughout the 1990s but experienced chart topping success with Moment of Truth in 1998.  The rap duo never separated but both individually garnered successes.  Guru began his solo career in 2001 and DJ Premier helped produce songs for various artists such as Jay-Z, the late Notorious B.I.G. among others.
