Have you ever asked Why Did I Get Married?

To the self conscience movie watchers who want to leave out of a Black film with a sense of purpose and direction to move forward in their lives, Why Did I Get Married Too is not the choice films to renew the senses.  The film is set between Atlanta and the Bahamas and viewers are literally brought into each scene as they are taken on a rollercoaster of emotions that every couple has experienced at one point in time.

The standout couple once again is Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White) who constantly argue, fight and belittle each other while proclaiming their unconditional love for one another.  I can say I personally knew a couple like this but they eventually got tired of each other and she kidnapped the kids and left him.

Then you have the ‘we’re fine’ couple Gavin (Malik Yoba) and Patricia (Janet Jackson) whose marriage is darker than many might realize.  Perry does an excellent job creating the darkness of surrounding the realness of their marriage.  Patricia is known for holding in her emotions and always depicting the perfect image until she makes a personal announcement in front of everyone during the yearly couple’s retreat in the Bahamas.  The fur starts to fly as everyone is trying to figure what is really going on with the “Perfects”.

Poor Terry (Tyler Perry) has always thought that Dianne (Sharon Leal) was cheating on him.  In the first Why Did I Get Married? he wondered if his daughter was his and in Why Did I Get Married Too? he wonders why she is being so secretive, energetic and detailed in her appearance.  While their marriage has been rekindled in this movie Dianne still has secrets and is still playing games.

The comeback kid of this movie is Sheila (Jill Scott ) who was verbally abused and cheated on by Mike (Richard T. Jones) in the first Why Did I Get Married?  At the end of the last movie she found love with Troy (Lamman Rucker) and they wed.  In Why Did I Get Married Too? Sheila convinces Troy to move to Atlanta after the birth of their son and the dark side of Troy comes out when he can’t find a job in his field as a police officer.

Why Did I Get Married Too is full of laughter, pain, surprises and hopes for something better. Perry steps away from his high comedy film approach and offers more depth to the characters.  You can see his artistry as a director increase in depth and dimension.  Couples and singles will surely enjoy the film.  But I was left with one looming question.  Did Tyler Perry create a serial killer in one of the characters?

Tell us what you think of the movie.
