The facts about 2012 Elections

As the headlines were filled for months about voting redistricting and voter ID laws (none of which is in place for this election), many voters are confused as we approach the elections.

The November general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Voters did not have to vote in the May 29, 2012 primary election in order to qualify to vote in the general election on Nov. 6, 2012. Whether you voted or not in the primary, you may vote for whomever you choose in November.

The deadline to register to vote has passed it was Tuesday, Oct. 9. However, you can visit the Texas Secretary of State website and confirm you are properly registered and where you should go to vote.

When it is all said and done, do not pay attention to the “noise” of TV experts and pundits. Do your own research and get to the facts to find out the real issues. Also keep in mind, who we elect in Washington is important, but who we elect in Austin matters too. Also, Dallas County and nearby communities have important initiatives including the Bond package we spotlighted last week. Officials are seeking your input on how to spend $600 million, in your community. Make your voice heard at the ballot box.
