One in six teens abuse prescription drugs obtained at home

Medicine abuse is a growing problem among teens in the U.S., with one in six teens taking medicine to get high or change their mood.  Any Lab Test Now is joining The Partnership at Drugfree.org‘s new national action campaign, The Medicine Abuse Project, in its goal to prevent half a million teens from abusing medicine.

“I am passionate about educating my community about this project and the importance of taking preventative measures to protect our teens,” said Pat Norton, Any Lab Test Now Sales Representative and Paramedic firefighter in the Indianapolis area.  “I have had to tell parents that their son or daughter is dead and have experienced their grief. This program could literally prevent somebody from overdosing.”

As a leader in teen drug testing and drug abuse prevention via their Trust But Verify program, Any Lab Test Now understands that the need to take action is crucial. Prescription medicines and over-the-counter cough medications have become the most commonly abused drugs among 12 to 13 year olds. Cleaning out medicine cabinets and securing medications will reduce medicine abuse among teens.

“The majority of teens who abuse medicines get them from family and friends,” said Steve Pasierb, President and CEO of The Partnership for Drugfree.org. “We need to change that. With the support of partners like Any Lab Test Now physicians, parents and teens themselves will be more aware of the dangers of medicine abuse.”
