We all know that Aubrey Graham aka Drake is musically inclined with great talent expressed through his music. But did you know until recently the rapper did not have a high school diploma. At the age of 25, a long-time goal for the rapper was finishing his high school diploma. Well he finally accomplished this credential and tweeted to followers, “97% on my final exam, 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life….I have graduated high school!…”
At the age of 15, Drake dropped out of high school to join Degrassi, a Canadian-based TV show depicting relationships of high school students. He played the role of “Jimmy” Brooks for seven seasons to help his mother out and put food on the table. Although the rapper admits that it did not pay much, it was the only money he had to support his mother.
When Drake’s music career took off in 2006 and he signed a record deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment in 2009, he was successful since. The rapper took a break from his music career to set forth his achievement at his diploma and finished without hesitation. For Drake it seems to be better to say he graduated at 25 then to say he never graduated at all. With the increasing drop-out rates of high school students, maybe this achievement will inspire many others to go back to school and graduate, regardless of how long they have been out; and maybe the rapper will put this latest accomplisment in a song!
