Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Alpha Xi Omega Chapter invites the public to attend its annual 84th Founders’ Day Luncheon at Noon, on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the  Dallas Hilton Anatole Hotel, Khmer Ballroom, 2201 North Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75207.  This year’s keynote speaker is the sorority’s International President, Attorney Carolyn House Stewart.

The Founders’ Day Luncheon theme is, “Timeless Service through Worthwhile Effort.”  The chapter will respectively honor members with 25 and 50 years of service.  This year’s honorees for fifty years of service include: Shirley Barton, Tredis Griffin, Thalia Haynes, Yvonne Rice, Floria Talbert, Jeweline Truitt, and Mary Kay Watkin.  Twenty five year honorees are: Deje Reed, Vernita Rickett, Courtney Thompson, and Rachel Whitaker.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the first Greek organization for college educated African-American females was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC on January 15, 1908. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated mission of “Service to All Mankind” began in 1908 and has been at the forefront of positive change in American life, particularly in the African American community. The sorority continues to fulfill this service imperative avowed by our founders through creative programs, awareness, advocacy, action and collaborative partnerships. As we Committed Leadership is essential to address issues related to social justice, human rights, health, poverty, economic security, environmental sustainability and to maintain a viable sisterhood of over 260,000 members.

Alpha Xi Omega Chapter was established in Dallas, Texas on June 6, 1929. Mrs. Florence Harlee Phelps, a Howard University graduate, initiated the effort to establish in her hometown a chapter of the first Greek letter sorority for African American women. The charter members of Alpha Xi Omega Chapter were: Ethel Boswell Darden*, Alberta Adams Lott*, Johnella Patton Lott*, Florence Harlee Phelps*, and Annie Lacy Watson*.

As Alpha Xi Omega Chapter celebrates more than 80 years, it is poised and ready to deliver even greater service to the Community. This large group of exceptionally talented, college-educated African American women is committed to serving humankind and improving the quality of life for all.
