School of Hard Knocks on DVD at Wal-Mart starring J. Holiday, Elise Neal and Rickey Ross

(BlackNews.com) — Writer and creator Ernest Tron Anderson wanted to write a story that connected to a younger demographic and that was redemptive.

“Tron writes from a very real place,” says Urban Home Entertainment CEO, Barrett Dungy. Like his first film, State Property, and the movies Boyz in the Hood and Shottas, these films are all reflective of the realities of how urban America lives. Tron’s film simply shines a light on it and takes its viewer on a journey that hopefully will prevent someone from going down that same road. This film is also directed and produced by Anderson.

Anderson is a protégé of another Philly favorite son, Will Smith. Starting out as an assistant for Will Smith, Anderson cut his teeth to work on Men in Black, Bad Boys, and Independence Day. Anderson has also helped with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The School of Hard Knocks is a thrilling story of how two friends lives change after they are witnesses to a brutal crime in their youth. They relocate to different regions of the country, but when they turn into young adults, the two characters reunite. Little do they know, they are in for a very harsh lesson in the fast life. The film is rounded off by a stellar cast, Elise Neal (Hustle and Flow), Erica Hubbard, and the infamous Freeway Rickey Ross.

The DVD is available at Wal-Mart on Feb. 29.
