Low income tenants who participate on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program received letters this week from the Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) informing them that the rent DHA will pay to their landlord is being reduced due to the 6% cut in funding.
The letter says that landlords will have until April 10th to decide whether to accept the rent decrease. If not, the tenant may need to move. Tenants may also face a rent increase. A copy of the letter from DHA is attached. Details on page 2 will vary from tenant to tenant.

In February, Alice led a delegation of tenants to Senator Ted Cruz’s office to deliver close to 300 Valentine postcards urging him to prevent cuts to 
housing, food, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other vital social programs. The press release from that event is also attached.

This is just plain wrong. DHA does not have the authority to do cut landlords rent without the landlords agreeing to it. DHA cannot manage their money well. All of the money goes to paying salaries to the top people and wasting taxpayers money.
You are right the landlords must agree to it. However, if they do not agree DHA is not going to continue the payments – so it leaves the tenants caught in the middle.

I CAN NOT WAIT TO MOVE BECAUSE THIS IS AN AWEFUL LANDLORD AND MY CASEWORKER DOESN’T DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME WHEN I CALL TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HIM. SHE SIMPLY SAYS” YOU CHOSE TO MOVE THERE”. SO NOW I’M CHOOSING TO MOVE OUT.
