Garland schedules move of historic railcar

RailcarGARLAND – The City of Garland plans to relocate its historic Santa Fe railcar Thursday, August 22 to its new home in the Walnut Pedestrian Corridor on the south side of Walnut St. at Sixth St. GarlandÂ’s 1910 Pullman Car #582 is a unique historical asset, due to its combined wood and steel construction.

The move is scheduled to begin mid to late morning Thursday. ItÂ’s expected to take four hours to relocate the historic car from its current location behind City Hall.

During the move, Fifth St. will be closed to through traffic between Walnut Street and the north entrance of the Fifth St. parking garage.

In response to the publicÂ’s interest in observing the move, a staging area along the move route has been established. All observers, including news media, are expected to stay behind the fencing and barricades, to avoid interfering with the moving companyÂ’s efforts to relocate the railcar.

ThursdayÂ’s scheduled move is subject to change due to weather or other project plan changes. After the railcar is relocated, moving plans for the Landmark Museum Depot will be announced.
