BHERC call for Short Film Festival Entries

menu_r1_c1(Hollywood, CA) – The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC), a nonprofit, public benefit organization designed to advocate, educate, research, develop, and preserve the history, and the future, of blacks in the film and television industries will Celebrate 20 years of connecting Hollywood to audiences across the country with a series of programs and events that spotlight the diversity and stellar contributions of African American film and television artists both in front of and behind the cameras.

Submissions for the 20th Annual African American Film Marketplace & S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase are being accepted now thru October 15th. Log on to www.bherc.org to download the form or call the office at 310-284-3170. Act now! Selected films will be shown at the 20th Annual African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase, Friday thru Sunday December 13th, 15th and 15th, 2013 at Raleigh Studios Los Angeles, CA. Diverse youth and health film submissions highly encouraged.

Saturday, October 19th – 5:00pm to 8:00pm join us for an encore presentation of the 2013 “Reel Black Men Film Showcase”. This screening of 7 Short Films is an opportunity for emerging African American male filmmakers to showcase their skills, talent and vision. Followed by a panel discussion about the future of blacks in film and filmmaking in general, this event will be held at Raleigh Studios Chaplin Theater – 5300 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038. Sunday, October 20th – 4:00pm to 6:00pm BHERC will Kick-Off their 20th Anniversary Celebration with “A Salute to Black Photographers Exhibition” Opening Reception. Highlighting the extraordinary work of Local Champion Photographers, this exhibit will run through December 31, 2013 – Thursday thru Sunday, 12 noon to 5:00pm at the Museum of African American Art/Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Macy’s – 4005 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 9008. Saturday, November 9th – 4:00pm to 6:00pm come share the stories, struggles and achievements of the Local Champion Photographers featured in our Salute to Black Photographers Exhibition (open October 2013 – December 2013). Experience the intense and sometimes humorous moments that came together in the split second needed to capture that one photo that “tells it all”. Followed by a reception, this panel discussion will be held at the Museum of African American Art/Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Macy’s – 4005 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008. Friday, December 13th – 7:00pm to 9:00pm Opening Night of the 20th Annual African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase – “A Great Day in Black Hollywood” will feature a Salute to the Black Stuntmen’s Association whose sole mission is to train, protect, preserve and honor the memory of African American Stuntmen and Minority pioneers of the Motion Picture and Television Industry. They are exceptional craftsmen and women who have created an exemplary body of critically acclaimed and blockbuster projects. Saturday – Sunday, December 14th thru 15th – All Day the 20th Annual African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase will take place at Raleigh Studios – 5300 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90038. The festival starts with the Youth and Diversity Film block showcasing films by high school students from 10am to 1pm. It continues with a selection of outstanding short films (representing BHERC’s 20 years of exceptional film festivals) and includes panel discussions, and much more.
