Frisco Police provide more details on arrest of mother accused of murdering 10 year-old son

Frisco Police Department released following statement:

On the evening of January 29, 2014 at approximately 6:30 pm, Frisco Police officers were dispatched to
15405 Mountain View Lane, Frisco, Collin County, Texas, in reference to a welfare concern. The
reporting party, Sumeet Dhawan advised that he had arrived home today from being out of town for the
last three weeks and was concerned for his wife and his son.
After officers arrived on scene, Mr. Dhawan told them that he had been out of town and arrived home a
few hours earlier. Mr. Dhawan said that his wife, Pallavi Dhawan and he live together in the home with
their ten year old child, Arnav Dhawan. They have no other children.
Mr. Dhawan said his wife left the location a couple of hours prior to him calling police. He became
concerned after she took a long time to return. Mr. Dhawan expressed concern about the welfare of his
child. Mr. Dhawan learned through email that his child had not attended school for the last several days.
While officers were speaking with Mr. Dhawan, Mrs. Dhawan returned to the location. Officers asked her
about the location of the child. Mrs. Dhawan indicated that she wanted to speak with her husband first.
Officers waited while Mr. Dhawan and wife spoke privately.

During the conversation Mr. Dhawan became notably upset. Officers were called over by Mr. Dhawan
who pointed towards a bedroom door. Officers rushed toward the door and found it to be locked. Officers
asked Mrs. Dhawan if the child was in the room and she nodded her head “yes”. Officers asked her if she
killed the child and Mrs. Dhawan nodded her head “yes”.

Officers forced entry into the bathroom and found Arnav in the bath tub deceased. He was lying in the
bath tub with a cloth wrapped up to his neck. Plastic bags were also found in the bathtub around him as
well.

Officers arrested Mrs. Dhawan and transported her to the Frisco City Jail. She has been officially charged
with Murder, which is a first degree felony. Her bond has been set $50,000.00.

An autopsy was performed this morning and a cause of death has not been determined by the Collin
County Medical Examiner at this time.
