NDG’s View

My grandfather, God rest his soul, said a black snake bites just as hard as a white one. Truer words have never been spoken. During the slave era sometimes our greatest enemy was not the slave master, but rather our fellow enslaved “brother” or “sister”. They sometimes unbeknownst to themselves, were not only acting against their best interest, but that of the greater good. Today, in spite of our physical emancipation, we find ourselves facing this very same dilemma. The 21st century African-American, despite personal and/or periodic gains here and there remains disenfranchised, fragmented and exploited as a collective.

The “system”, the proverbial “man”, if you will, is without question a source of the perils within the African-American community. However, much of our continued stagnated state lies directly at the feet of the Black misleadership class. The same mentality of those who conspired against Harriet Tubman and other freedom fighters is alive and thriving today. It is the Black misleadership who has sold out the community for a few pieces of silver and continues to guide us in the wrong direction. In fact, instructing us to act not in our own best interest. And while they are liable, we too are complicit in our own destruction, as we continue to display group thinking. We continue to believe every black face that comes along espousing a few feel good quotes has come to save us.

We think it is time out for this. We are highly capable of critical thinking. We are more than capable of looking at a candidate, investigating his track record, what he does, what he says and ascertaining whether or not they will act in our best interest. We cannot allow the personal political aspirations of a few to (thwart or taint) our decisions. Neither can we allow these symbolic gestures continue to fool us. It is imperative we analyze each candidate individually based on their merits and this begins with the upcoming congressional race between Marc Veasey and Tom Sanchez.

The Black misleadership of Dallas has colluded together to endorse Marc Veasey over Tom Sanchez and now expects us to fall rank and file in support of their decision without any serious discussion as to why Representative Veasey will best represent us. Well, we reject this and furthermore we implore you to do the same.

Don’t allow a few charismatic ads invoking the name of Dr. Martin Luther King to persuade you. Don’t let the smooth taste fool you. Let’s not allow our personal desire to see black faces in high places to impede our critical thinking skills. Nor should we allow our personal feelings to drive us to vote against our best interest.

Representative Veasey has had ample enough time in Washington to prove he is about serving his constituency. He has failed miserably. Representative Veasey has cast many questionable votes implying his allegiance clearly is not with those in the 33rd District, but rather the corporations who line his coiffeurs. Representative Veasey has received a resounding number of endorsements, including that of the Dallas’ Black misleadership trinity. To many that may be viewed as confirmation of his credibility. We, on the other hand, beg to differ. In fact, it is only further confirmation Representative Veasey is indeed part and parcel of the usual suspects.

Tom Sanchez is a viable alternative to the status quo and deserves at the very least your consideration. Take a look at where he stands on the issues that matter most to you. Check out his history and involvement in the community. Take an active role in the politics of your community and become engaged. We strongly believe that when you do, you will come to the same conclusion we have. Tom Sanchez deserves much more than your consideration. He deserves your vote.

  1. Have you really checked Sanchez’s background? He has donated money in the past to Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, and Rick Perry. That money went to support all their Republican positions in all their agendas. His residence was listed in 2012 as Schaumburg Illinois on some of these contributions. He is registered to practice law in Illinois but there is no evidence at the Texas Lawyers Bar Association search website that he was able to qualify to practice law in Texas. Apparently his career was spent in the service of two large corporations tending for the corporation’s interests as lawyer, not for any community or country.

    He wrote an op-ed on immigration and citizenship in the Dallas Morning News in which he stated that The Constitution of the Republic of Texas was a document to look to for “principles”. That constitution banned citizenship for African Americans and Native Americans

    If you really look at what he has done and what he is saying, it is all over the map. Someone who understands the full implication of what he is doing and saying needs to represent the 33rd district, not Tom Sanchez.

  2. Thank you for sharing the info Robert. We encourage each voter to closely look at the candidates to ensure they are an informed voter.

  3. Tom, get your facts straight…..America is NOT tearing families apart. Illegals tear the families apart by entering the country illegally, bringing their children here illegally and worse, having children here knowing they themselves as parents are still here illegally.

    The illegals knowingly and willingly swarm here, what they aren’t used to is being held accountable. All legal citizens ask is enforcement of current laws……all the illegal wants is for us to rewrite law to accommodate their illegal activity.

    Here’s a thought, they should say thank you that we have extended patience and welfare to them…..but you never hear that do you?

    And why do they want to be here when they don’t like Americans nor our laws? This type of conduct America can live without, place blame where it squarely belongs and that is on the shoulders of the illegals.

  4. S McInnish;

    Clearly; you might have been reading another article. The article is about Sanchez vs. Veasey in a political race not “illegals” and what you accuse them of doing to this country. However, if you really want to talk about “illegals”, you should start with the Europeans who invaded the Americas and committed various levels of genocide against the people who were here before 1492. And don’t forget to mention the recent role played by US sponsored NAFTA in forcing Mexicans, etc. to leave their countries in search of a better way of life.

    Now, getting to the issues mentioned in the article, I am not very impressed by either candidate. However, I lean toward giving Mr. Veasey one more shot at doing something noticeable for the people of his district.
