Garland hosting ribbon cutting for LBJ and Centerville construction project

centervilleThe City of Garland will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Amberton University, 1700 Eastgate Drive in Garland. The ceremony celebrates the $10 million highway construction project funded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) on IH-635 East between Centerville Road and Northwest Highway.

Members of the Legislative Delegation for IH-635 East will be present as well as representatives from the Texas Transportation Commission, TxDOT, Regional Transportation Council, Dallas County, and the City of Garland.

The project consists of restructuring the Centerville exit ramp and building a service road to allow for greater safety, mobility and easier access to adjacent properties. Most of this adjacent property is retail and commercial establishments.

The project represents a portion of a bigger transportation project being developed to reconstruct and reconfigure IH-635 East from US 75 to IH-30. Another portion of the larger, ultimate project that is being expedited is a soundwall project from east of Centerville Road to La Prada Drive.

Since its implementation, the initial stages of the project between Centerville Road and Northwest Highway have spurred nearly $40 million in private sector development in the area. The broader IH-635 project has significant implications for economic growth and development along the IH-635 corridor and for the entire DFW Metroplex.
