Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce now accepting nominations

The oldest and largest Black chamber of commerce in the nation, the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce (DBCC) is now accepting nominations for the prestigious 2012 Thomas L. Houston Community Service Award.

The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award was established in 1985 to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the civic enhancements of Dallas’ African American community.  The award was renamed for former DBCC President, Thomas L. Houston, who served from 1982 to 1995, to honor his memory and the many years of dedication he gave to the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and the African-American community. 

Criteria for nominees:

1-     The nominee must be a Dallas resident for the past five (5) years with at least three (3) years of civic involvement in the African-American community.

2-     The nominee’s service to the African-American community must be in a volunteer capacity and the services rendered MUST be broad in scope.

3-     The nominee must show dedication to Dallas’ African-American community and be an outstanding, community-minded individual.

Deadline for nominations is Monday, Sept. 10, 2012.

The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce will present the 2012 Award during the 86th Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dallas Convention Center.  The Dallas Black Chamber Awards Banquet is the highlight of the chamber’s annual event line up as it serves to provide a progress report on the chamber for the year as well as to acknowledge those chamber members, sponsors and supporters who have gone above and beyond to support the chamber in its community efforts.  The banquet draws over 1,000 attendees annually.

Seating is limited.  Tickets for the DBCC 86th Annual Awards Banquet are $75.00 each, a small business table of ten (10) is $750.00 and a corporate table of ten (10) is $1,500.  Various sponsorship and advertising opportunities are now available.
