Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect was captured Friday evening in Watertown, Mass. One hour after declaring residents can leave their homes, police responded to calls regarding gunfire exchange. The police department confirmed via their Twitter account, the suspect is in custody.

For over 12 hours most of Boston and surrounding communities were on lockdown with residents asked to remain in their homes unless a uniformed law enforcement official comes to the door. All schools were closed, included MIT were a police officer was shot and killed overnight, and Harvard University.

Reports indicate Tsarnaev was captured after being discovered in a boat in a backyard. Gunfire was exchanged, but he was reportedly captured alive and transported to a hospital.

Also, three others have been arrested in New Bedford according to the Boston Globe:

New Bedford Police Lieutenant Robert Richard said his department assisted federal investigators in executing a search warrant at a home on Carriage Drive in New Bedford, about 10 minutes from the campus of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where Tsarnaev was a student.

Richard said the FBI took two men and a woman into custody. “They appeared to be either fellow college students or fellow residents,” he said. Richard said Tsarnaev may have been affiliated with the home on Carriage Drive in some way – possibly having lived or visited the house.
