Fame Comes to Garland

FameGarland Civic Theatre’s youth division, Next Generation Players, will present a production of Fame Jr. From the hit motion pictures, television series, and international stage success, Fame is nothing short of a global phenomenon. The book is by Josh Fernandez, lyrics are by Jacques Levy, and music is by Steve Margeshes. All the performances are at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland. Performance dates and times are July 31 at 7:30 p.m, August 1 and August 2 at 7:30 p.m., August 3 and August 4 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 each and can be purchased now at the Arts Center Box Office by calling 972-205-2790.

Set during the last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), Fame is the bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today.

With its topical subject manner, multi-ethnic cast of actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists and high-energy, contemporary pop score Fame is an ideal musical for young performers.

The show is directed by Ryan Matthieu Smith and the music director is Jeanine Adamson. The cast includes James Adamson, Mikayla Anthony, Kennedy Box, Emily Garcia, Natalie Garcia, Ania Garfias, Emma Hay, Zack Jones, Hannah Kilpatrick, Allie Magee, Jill Marlow, McKenna McGough, Lauren Metzinger, Cutter Palacios, Jessica Seals, Anyssa Smith-Deleon, Grant Steiner, Javon Tcheco, Oby Umelloh, and Michelle Zuniga.
