DALLAS — The Texas Organizing Project (TOP) will sponsor a health care information session and rally, dubbed “Sign Up and Speak Out,” in Dallas Tuesday evening, providing area families with information on how to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace beginning Oct. 1 and what to do if they are not eligible for affordable health care through the Marketplace. The Marketplace, also known as the exchange, is a key provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Scheduled guest speakers include state Rep. Roberto Alonzo, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, and Dallas Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Monica Alonzo.

“With more than six million people lacking health insurance, Texas unfortunately has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation.  Even though Governor Perry blocked Medicaid expansion, the ACA can still help insure more than three million Texans through the Marketplace.  TOP is working to make sure Texans ‘sign up’ for a health plan and then make sure they have the tools necessary to ‘speak out’ against the failed political leaders in Texas who are trying to block access to affordable health care,” said Luis Veloz, Dallas resident and Co-Chair of TOP’s Statewide Health Care Campaign Committee.

The event is scheduled for today from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Zan Holmes Community Life Center at St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church located at 6211 E. Grand Ave. in Dallas.
