2nd Annual Celebrating the Legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen Fundraiser

indexOn Friday evening, 7-10 pm, October 18th, 2013, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, 6911 Lemmon Ave, Dallas, TX 75209, we will honor and pay tribute to the many contributions and accomplishments of women in the aviation industry! This celebration will also honor the Tuskegee Airmen for their bravery and determination to serve their country by fighting fascism abroad and racism at home.

On this evening, Major (Ret.) Yolandea Wood, USAF Academy graduate, will bring motivational remarks. As a combat navigator, she has earned numerous military decorations and awards. Maj. Wood tirelessly serves her community through schools, youth groups, and service organizations. She is noted for garnering the Brigadier General Noel F. Parrish Award, for enhancing equal access to knowledge, skills and opportunities!

Our guests will be treated to a “Bessie Coleman” re-enactment, performed by noted actress, Melissa Thibodeaux, and we will honor Mrs. Azellia White, one of the first African American women to hold a pilot certificate in the State of Texas. Mrs. “A” was married to Hulon “Pappy” White, a Tuskegee Airman and flight instructor. In June, she celebrated her 100th birthday! We will also honor other women like Beth Ann Jenkins who is a Commemorative Air Force B-25 pilot and Deedie Favro who was a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. On this evening, we will all “sway” to the soulful and soothing sounds of a jazz band in the backdrop of the Commemorative Air Force Operation Rise Above traveling exhibit.

Beginning October 16th through the 19th, 2013, the Frontiers of Flight Museum will host the UPS  sponsored Commemorative Air Force Operation Rise Above traveling exhibit, which will include a P-51C Mustang in the paint scheme of the famed 332nd Fighter Group. This traveling exhibit will enhance the Museum’s recently expanded permanent exhibit in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen.

You are invited to help continue the legacy. Your tax deductable financial support will benefit the Black Pilots of America, Inc. “Les Morris” Summer Flight Academy and the Claude R. Platte Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. The BPA “Les Morris” Summer Flight Academy is an opportunity for youth to discover the wonders of aviation through FAA certified flight instruction as well as historical field trips. www.bpapilots.org/summer-flight-academy
