Carmen on the Dallas Opera stage Nov. 2

1275-fitandcrop-660x365Opera is one of the few forms of theater I have never had an opportunity to experience. The Dallas Opera’s production of Carmen on Nov. 2 at the Winspear Opera House might be the night I change that.

Carmen by Georges Bizet is sung in French but English supertitles allow you to enjoy the experience.

She is the woman no man can resist and, as performed by mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine in her American debut, who would want to say non? Hailed as “Best Newcomer” in the 2011 French Classical Music Awards, Margaine will have her hands full with head-turning Portuguese tenor Bruno Ribeiro as Don José.

This production, conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and directed by Chris Alexander, will make all the other good/bad girls of opera seem tame, if not lame, in comparison.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Winspear Opera House located at 2403 Flora Street in Dallas.

Tickets start as low as $19 and be purchased at www.dallasopera.org/season. If you are not available Nov. 2, it is also presented on Nov. 10.
