Bobbie Wygant, legendary NBC 5 entertainment correspondent, wins national award

Bobbie WygantDALLAS and FORT WORTH — NBC 5 entertainment correspondent, Bobbie Wygant, has won the 2013 Gracie Award for Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent presented by the Alliance for Women In Media, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the impact of women in the media.

Wygant, an NBC 5 entertainment reporter, joined then WBAP-TV as it signed-on in September 1948 and still enjoys sharing her early television experiences with audiences.  In “NBC 5 Turns 65,” the station’s recent 65th anniversary special, she recollected walking into the new station that first day.  Wygant was on the air with her popular midday program on November 22, 1963 when news of JFK’s assassination came into the newsroom interrupting her program several times.

Over the decades, Wygant has interviewed and befriended numerous Hollywood stars.

“The Gracie Award is named for Gracie Allen, wife of George Burns, whom I interviewed many times. George worked until two years before he died at 100.  I’d like to do the same,” said Wygant.

The Gracie Award is far from Wygant’s first recognition.  In 2000, Wygant received the National “Critic’s Critic” Award by the Broadcast Film Critics Association in Los Angeles.  In 2004, Wygant was inducted into the Gold Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for 50 years of contributions to television broadcasting joining such luminaries as Walter Cronkite.

Wygant will receive her award at the 39th Annual Gracie Awards luncheon to be held on June 11, 2014 in New York, NY.

NBC 5 has been honored with several Gracie Awards through the years.  Most recently, anchor/reporter Kristi Nelson was recognized for Outstanding Feature – Hard News Program in 2009, and anchor/reporter Deborah Ferguson was recognized in 2010 as Outstanding Anchor – News.
