Billy Ivan a self-proclaimed Hip Hop/R&B/Experimental Artist/Producer from Staten Island, New York sent a link to his new song Asking. When I it began I thought I was on the wrong page and went back to the email to confirm. It is very much not your typical hip hop song when it begins. Hence – experimental description is not to be overlooked.
Now, I am not a big hip hop fan at all, but this song reminded me of the old days of hip hop (pre gangsta rap). It is a song filled with a message and aspires for the better part of our nature. The voice over at the end is interesting, it sounds like something out of Rocky but no idea if it is. One thing is true — his advice about live rings true — if you let it be.
Ivan said, “Sometimes in life events take place where we are challenged with plenty of questions. Of all the questions we might want to ask, uncertainty can shed light onto our deepest fears. These experiences can at times force us to witness a side of ourselves that we never even knew existed. As children growing up we dream so bright, but sudden impacts of hardships can create an off switch to our inner glow. Falling short of the answers but still with infinite wishes I call this one “Asking”.
