LITTLE ELM (July 12, 2015) After being closed since May 24 due to dangerous conditions related to the heavy rains and flooding, the Little Elm Park Boat Ramp will reopen today, according to Parks and Recreation Director Chad Hyde.

Town officials have inspected the ramp and have deemed it safe for public use.  The ramp, along with the beach and a significant portion of Little Elm Park’s waterfront have been inundated by the encroaching Lewisville Lake, which has since begun to recede at a sluggish pace.

While rains have been only sporadic since the closure, part of the reason for the gradualness in the lake’s receding is the fact that Lake Ray Roberts to the north empties into Lewisville Lake, introducing a fairly constant stream of water even without additional significant rainfall.

While the Little Elm Boat Park Ramp will open to boats launches today, caution is still the watchword as the water along the ramp is not completely receded to level at which the ramp was designed.  Structures such as picnic tables, park grills, trees, and other items may still be underwater and unmarked around the lake.

The Town of Little Elm offers a yearly pass to residents for $25 and to non-residents for $75. Day use of the ramp carries a rate of $10, which can be purchased at the kiosk at the boat ramp.  Yearly passes can also be purchased at the boat ramp kiosk.  The yearly pass receipt can then be taken to Utility Billing, on the second floor of Town Hall, 100 West Eldorado Parkway or the Parks and Reaeration office, 101 Hardwicke Lane during regular business hours.

Proof of residency is required.  The passes are good for a calendar year.
