TBAAL audiences love Frenchie Davis and she is back this season in the title role about the life, music and times of one of the world’s greatest gospel singers, Mahalia Jackson. Gospel music lovers have a chance to win tickets from the NDG by visiting our Facebook page for more details.
The humble and deeply religious Jackson, whose expressive, full-throated voice, carried her from a three room shanty in New Orleans to appearances before presidents and royalty. The musical voice of the civil rights movement, Jackson’s friend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “A voice like this one comes not once in a century, but once in a millennium.” The show is in remembrance of Dr. King’s April 4, 1968 assassination.
The show is scheduled for Friday, April 1 at 8:15 p.m. and Saturday April 2 at 3 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at TBAAL’s Clarence Muse Café Theatre. Tickets are $18.50 and can be purchased at TBAAL’s box office or online.
