DFW Community Brief: Perry Pumpkin Patch offers families a chance to get into the Halloween spirit

While there is plenty of Halloween-themed things to do in DFW this time of year, October offers a variety of other activities residents can enjoy this Fall.

Carrollton

The A.W. Perry Society and the City of Carrollton are hosting the first annual Perry Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1509 N. Perry Rd, Carrollton. Attendees are encouraged to come picnic in the park and enjoy family friendly games and activities. Food will be available for purchase at the event as well as an opportunity to pick out a pumpkin for this Halloween season. The event will also feature a canned food drop off location for those looking to donate. Admission to the event is free and safe for the whole family. More information can be found here.

 Dallas

The Texas Veggie Fair is returning to Reverchon Park on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 3505 Maple Ave, Dallas. This free event celebrates plant-based lifestyle options and features food and products from a variety venders and food trucks available for purchase. The event will also include live music, a beer garden, chef demos, games, activities for children, and much more. Attendees are encouraged to bring the whole family – including pets! Dallas Park and Recreation Department is hosting Pumpkins on the Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1500 Marilla Dr., Dallas. The Halloween-themed event will feature a costume contest for both kids and pets, pumpkin and canvas painting, arts and crafts, hayrides, food trucks, and live music and entertainment. Texas Democratic Women are holding their next meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Northaven United Methodist Church at 11211 Preston Rd, Dallas. The featured speaker will be Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. More information can be found here.

St. Luke Community United Methodist Church is hosting a Hope for Healing concert on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. at 5710 East R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas. The concert will be presented by St. Luke and the Black Methodist for Church Renewal and will feature guests Joseph Toliver, Andrea Wallace, and the State Fair Unity Choir. Farmers Branch

Farmers Branch Manske Library is hosting a Boo-ville Bash & Pumpkin Patch just in time for Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 13613 Webb Chapel Rd, Farmers Branch. The event will feature fun activities for children like the Pumpkin Toss and Pin the Tie on the Monster. Candy will also be available for kids to help get them into the Halloween spirit. Garland

The City of Garland will be hosting Rockin’ the Square: A Historic Block Party on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 150 N 6th Street, Garland. The event will celebrate Downtown Garland’s listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The event will feature live music provided by The Mullet Boyz and Old Southern Moonshine Revival, food, fireworks, and the official unveiling of the National Register plaque. McKinney

Historic Downtown McKinney Is hosting Scare on the Square on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 111 N Tennessee St, McKinney. The event is kid friendly and free providing families with a safe way to enjoy Halloween this year. This annual event will feature interactive activities and lots to do for kids. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween best – costumes and all. More information can be found here.

The City of McKinney is hosting its regular Neighborhood Night at the Movies and on Friday, Oct. 27 the film will be 2017’s live action hit Beauty and the Beast. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Serenity Park at 6701 Berkshire Rd, McKinney. Parents can bring the whole family and are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to movie. Plano

Plano Fashion Week will take place Monday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 29 at event1013 at 1013 E 15th St, Plano. Producer Brandon Campbell organized Plano Fashion Week to bring the community together to promote fashion designers and artists as well as to serve an encouragement to the Plano fashion community.  Richardson

Richardson will be home to the Strides Against Violence 5K on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. at 2351 Performance Dr, Richardson. The event benefits Chetna, Families to Freedom, Hope’s Door New Beginning Center, Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation, and Turning Paiges and hopes to bring awareness to intimate partner, family and sexual violence. There will also be a 1K Fun Run and Virtual Runner option available as well. Registration is required and can be found along with more information on the event here.
