Collin College Students Win Three Gold Medals, Bronze at National SkillsUSA Competition

MCKINNEY — While Texas hosts international soccer fans during the FIFA World Cup, a group of Collin College students is celebrating championship victories of its own after earning top honors at the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta.

Five students from the college captured three gold medals and one bronze medal during the SkillsUSA Championships, one of the nation’s largest showcases for career and technical education students.

The annual conference drew more than 19,000 participants, including students, educators, industry representatives, employers, administrators and government officials from across the United States. Competitors tested their knowledge and technical abilities in a wide range of workforce-focused disciplines.

Among the top finishers were:

  • Rachel Hansen of Celina, who won a gold medal in Graphic Communication.
  • Macey Loureiro of Plano, who earned gold in Photography.
  • Tyler Mathieson of Melissa, who captured gold in Technical Computer Applications.

In team competition, Lisa Dorman of McKinney and Martin Torres of Blue Ridge earned a bronze medal in 3D Visualization and Animation.

SkillsUSA describes its national championships as the premier event recognizing the skills and achievements of America’s career and technical education students.

Collin College officials said the students’ success reflects the strength of the institution’s workforce and technical education programs.

Collin College serves approximately 60,000 credit and continuing education students each year and offers more than 200 degree and certificate programs. The college also offers bachelor’s degrees in nursing, cybersecurity, construction management, clinical operations management and software development.

The college is the only public higher education institution based in Collin County and partners with businesses, government agencies and industry leaders to provide workforce training and professional development opportunities.
