The Church of Christ (Holiness) USA will convene its World Mission Board on July 16 at the Hyatt Regency DFW, bringing together church leaders to discuss the denomination’s global ministry and missionary work.
The meeting will focus on the church’s mission of spreading the Christian gospel through evangelism, education and outreach programs in the United States and abroad. Church leaders oversee missionary efforts as well as the administration of educational institutions, places of worship and other ministries affiliated with the denomination.
Founded in 1897, the Church of Christ (Holiness) USA traces its origins to the first Holiness Convention in Jackson, Mississippi. The gathering emphasized sanctified Christian living and laid the foundation for what would become the denomination.
The church was established under the leadership of Bishop Charles Price Jones, a minister, composer and publisher of holiness hymns. Jones taught that Christians should pursue a life of holiness through faith in Jesus Christ and encouraged believers to seek a deeper spiritual commitment.
Today, the denomination follows the Methodist Articles of Religion and is organized under an Episcopal form of church governance led by a senior bishop. The church is divided into eight dioceses and supports missionary work in West Africa, the Dominican Republic and Honduras.
The denomination also operates Christ Missionary and Industrial College in Jackson, Mississippi, to prepare students for ministry and service.
According to church statistics, the denomination reported nearly 13,000 members, 139 congregations and more than 200 ordained ministers in its most recently published membership figures.
Church leaders say the denomination continues to emphasize the authority of the Bible, belief in the Trinity, salvation through Jesus Christ and the doctrine of holy living as central tenets of its faith.
The World Mission Board meeting is scheduled for July 16 at the Hyatt Regency DFW in Dallas.
