PLANO, Texas – Theatergoers have one last chance this weekend to see the Art Centre Theatre’s comedic parody of The Princess Bride, as the Plano venue presents its final three performances of the popular production.
Inspired by the beloved fantasy adventure, the stage adaptation follows Buttercup, whose plans for a happy future are shattered when she believes her true love, Westley, has died. Forced into an engagement with the villainous Prince Humperdinck, Buttercup is kidnapped by a trio of outlaws before a mysterious man in black arrives to rescue her. As the story unfolds, the masked hero is revealed to be Westley, setting the stage for romance, daring sword fights, clever humor and a battle against an evil prince.
The production blends action, comedy and adventure into a family-friendly theatrical experience that pays tribute to the classic story while adding its own comedic twist.
The Art Centre Theatre, known as ACT, is dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality performing arts programming for North Texas audiences. The nonprofit organization presents a year-round season featuring musicals, dramas, comedies, operas, dance performances, children’s theater, concerts and art exhibits.
In addition to producing established works, ACT supports new and experimental productions while offering educational programming for children and creating opportunities for local performers. The theater also strives to serve diverse audiences and strengthen community connections through the arts.
Following the conclusion of The Princess Bride parody, the theater will turn its attention to its summer youth production, Percy Jackson: Nico Di Angelo Sails Against Time.
The camp will run July 27 through Aug. 7, with students attending Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will present a 15- to 20-minute performance at 5 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Inspired by the Percy Jackson book series, the original production centers on Nico Di Angelo and tells a new adventure from the character’s perspective.
