(PVAMU) Prairie View A&M University is remembering Fred Allen Bragg, a beloved member of the University community whose nearly three decades of dedicated service left a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues.
Bragg joined Prairie View A&M in 1998 as an academic advisor in The Place, a student support unit. As the University evolved, The Place became University College and later transformed into PV CARES. Through each transition, Bragg’s commitment to students remained constant.
For generations of Panthers, Bragg was more than an academic advisor. He was a mentor, advocate, supporter, friend and trusted source of wisdom and encouragement. He understood that student success extended beyond registration and degree plans, and he devoted himself to helping students overcome challenges, discover opportunities and achieve their academic and personal goals.
Bragg brought that same spirit of service to his colleagues. His warmth, patience, kindness and genuine concern for others made people feel welcomed, valued and supported. He was a dedicated professional, loyal Panther, gifted artist and man of faith whose life reflected humility, compassion, integrity and grace.
Those who knew Bragg will also remember the special way he could brighten a room. His familiar greetings — a cheerful “Hello Darling!” to his female colleagues and an uplifting “Hello Young Man!” to his male colleagues — became part of his signature and reflected his ability to make others smile and feel that they mattered.
Bragg’s passing leaves a void within Advising Services, PV CARES and the broader PVAMU community. His legacy extends beyond the years he served to the thousands of students he advised, the colleagues he inspired, the friendships he nurtured and the lives he touched.
