Rest in Peace to a True Community Pillar: Former Garland City Councilman B.J. Williams. Garland, Texas has lost a giant.
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Former District 4 City Councilman B.J. Williams, who passed away recently.
Mr. Williams dedicated his entire life to public service, equity, and lifting others up.
For over a decade, he represented District 4 with unmatched integrity, thoughtful planning, and steady leadership (serving from 2012–2018 and again from 2020–2026).
Beyond the City Council chamber, he was a champion for civil rights, serving an unprecedented eight terms as the President of the NAACP Garland Unit from 1996 to 2010.

He worked tirelessly to expand economic opportunities for minorities and women, and spent decades mentoring youth through his beloved Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
From his humble beginnings in Bossier City, Louisiana, to his 37-year career with the Social Security Administration and his monumental impact on Garland, Mr. Williams modeled what it means to lead with kindness and purpose.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the community he loved so dearly.
His legacy will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, sir.
