Gala Set to Support the Launch of ‘Verna’s Jubilee’ Documentary

Verna’s HELP Foundation (doing business as VTMPO3 Ministry), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, will host a production launch gala for the feature-length documentary “Verna’s Jubilee” on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. at Edison’s Dallas, 1724 Cockrell Ave., Dallas, TX 75215. Tickets, donations and sponsorships will support the film’s production

The documentary chronicles five decades of biracial alliances that shaped Dallas and Texas. It focuses on the advocacy of Verna Thomas-Melton, 77, of Dallas. Thomas-Melton’s work includes intervening to prevent the placement of about 5,000 young Black students in under-resourced schools sought for federal funding, as well as contributions to the founding of the North Texas Food Bank in 1981, the Austin Street Shelter in 1983 and the Annette Strauss Family Shelter

Award-winning filmmakers King Hollis and Lindell Singleton of August Sky Media Group are directing the project. Producer Tracy “The D.O.C.” Curry, a hip-hop artist, is also attached.

The gala seeks to raise an initial $5,000 toward a $150,000 production budget for a broadcast-quality cinematic trailer intended to attract major streaming distribution. All contributions are tax-deductible
