MyChildren’s will provide healthcare to underserved South Dallas children

My Children's 3DALLAS – Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC) has announced Children’s Medical Center has expanded its pediatric primary care network in North Texas with the opening of its 16th MyChildren’s location in South Dallas’ Mill City neighborhood. This new location is a collaboration between Children’s and Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC), a community-based non-profit serving the needs of South Dallas neighborhoods. ICDC is the developer and owns the new MyChildren’s primary care office building at 4922 Spring Avenue.

MyChildren’s Mill City is the culmination of two missions: Children’s mission to make life better for children; and ICDC’s mission to create stable, safe and vibrant neighborhoods, building partnerships that provide home ownership opportunities, economic development and community education in South Dallas. Leaders from the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity helped to bring together Children’s and ICDC.

Diane Ragsdale, Executive Director of ICDC, said, “ICDC looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Children’s Medical Center. We work hand in hand with residents to organize and effectively address neighborhood issues.  Yet, our community-building efforts suffer from a dangerous combination of high expectations and meager resources. We recognize we cannot do it alone by any means. So developing this collaboration and having a much needed resource like MyChildren’s right here on Spring Avenue is life changing for the families we serve.”

Dallas City Councilwoman Carolyn R. Davis, District 7, said, “I am very excited that this collaboration between ICDC and MyChildren’s will help expand quality medical care for children in South Dallas. This is one of many projects already in motion to improve Spring Avenue and the surrounding area with newly paved streets, lighting, landscaping and the removal of blighted properties. Great things are happening that are as a result of the City’s focus on South Dallas.”

MyChildren’s is a network of pediatric primary care practices that specialize in pediatric health care and serve as medical homes for children. Medical homes are one-stop health care facilities that give patients comprehensive and continuous medical care to ensure consistency and continuity in their health care. MyChildren’s physicians are board-certified in pediatrics and affiliated with Children’s Medical Center.

MyChildren’s practices are strategically located throughout North Texas neighborhoods where high numbers of families have inadequate access to primary care. MyChildren’s practices accept most insurance, including Medicaid and the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). By identifying the areas from which most of these children are coming, Children’s is able to open MyChildren’s practices to bring pediatric primary care to children in these areas and alleviate emergency room overflow.
