The Education Committee of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Education Summit on Thursday, April 16, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest Great Hall of Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, TX 75211.

The breakfast ceremony will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Joe May, Chancellor of Dallas County Community College District, who will bring focus to education and economic development in Oak Cliff. Dr. May’s topic will be “Business and Community Engagement in Education: Enhancing Economic Development.”
The Chamber will also gather to award the 2015 Golden Oaks Scholarship recipients. The Golden Oaks Scholarship awards program began in 1975 when concerned Oak Cliff businessmen and women wanted to recognize outstanding students. Their concerns lead to decades of providing grants and scholarships to local students, teachers, and schools.
Recipients of the scholarships are based on merit and need. Each awarded pupil must either live in or go to school in the Oak Cliff area and enroll in a higher learning institution in Dallas, Tarrant or Denton County the semester following graduation. Each scholarship is for $1,000 and the number of scholarship awarded depends on the amount of money that is raised. Applications were submitted from all over the Southern Dallas area, and narrowed down by the Education Committee. The 2015 Golden Oaks Scholarship recipients are:
-Georgette T. Rojas (Trinidad Garza Early College High School at Mountain View)
-Nora Candelaria (Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services)
-Emely Zuniga (School of Education and Social Services at Townview)
-Tristen A. Arrington (Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services)
-Osiel I. Castañeda (Trinidad Garza Early College High School at Mountain View)
-Lissette Regis (Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services)
-Markesia T. Burnough (School of Education and Social Services at Townview)
-Jazmin Rose (Trinidad Garza Early College High School at Mountain View)
The Education Summit is sponsored by: Faith Family Academy Charter Schools and Mountain View College.
A Vendor Expo will also be held throughout the event where attendees can pick up information about local businesses and organizations. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets to the event are $15 for Chamber members, $20 for non-members and include full, hot breakfast.
