Donors and volunteers have committed to help complete Prosper playground

Several Prosper homeowner associations (HOAs) have made it a priority to help furnish Windmill Playground, the Town’s community-build play area within Frontier Park, with component pieces that must be purchased from manufacturers, rather than built onsite, according to Development Services Director Hulon Webb.

“The component pieces are those parts of a playground that can’t be readily crafted on the building site using wood and the usual hand or power tools, but that have to be manufactured and shipped out to us. Things like slides, swings, metal monkey bars, and other similar parts,” he said.

So far, the Preston Lakes HOA has committed to purchasing a bench with a shade structure. The value of that component is $1,000. Also, the Highland Meadows HOA has purchased the Frontier Façade component, also at a value of $1,000.

Meanwhile, officials of the Stone Creek HOA report their fund-raising efforts have already resulted in a collection of some $3,000, and they say they are continuing to conduct their campaign. Other HOAs that have indicated an interest in raising money for component pieces include Steeplechase, Whispering Farms, and Gentle Creek HOAs.

“We are extremely pleased with the incredible response from the HOAs. Their commitment to the playground actually extends beyond their donation since many have already put teams in place to assist with the build week,” said Webb.

The playground will begin to take shape on May 14, as workers will converge on Frontier Park ready to begin the construction. Town personnel believe that the entire playground can be built and finished in time for a May 19 opening. To meet that ambitious schedule, some 2,000 people are needed to assist in a number of tasks, including carpenters, material handlers, laborers, production controllers, food servers, babysitters, and general hands.

“We will have a plan in place that will spread out the help over the week, so it’s important that all volunteers, groups and individuals alike, go to the Windmill Playground web site and register,” he said.

The web site, www.windmillplayground.com can also be utilized for submitting donations to the effort.

Windmill Playground is the first community-build project for the Town of Prosper and one of a handful in the North Texas area.

The playground’s efforts at reaching its fund-raising goal have been bolstered by the four Premier level sponsors, Baylor Medical Center at McKinney, Market Street Grocers, Superscapes Landscaping and Torii and Katrina Hunter.
