A Day of Glamour: Honoring single moms on Father’s Day

Although the ideal situation for a child is to be raised by both a caring mother and father, sometimes life’s circumstances such as death, their parents’ divorce or separation can sometimes leave their mothers as single parents.

According to the 2010 United States Census report, there are approximately 14 million single moms with children under the age of 18 living at home. These women often do not have the money or resources to pamper or enjoy themselves because they are busy playing roles of both mom and dad to their children.  In honor of these women, Faithful Vows is hosting “A mini day of Glamour: Honoring Single Moms on Father’s Day” Sunday, June 17 at 2:30 p.m., at Roman Hair Salon located at 3030 N. Josey Lane in Carrollton.

Faithful Vows is a company that creates sentimental experiences with original greeting cards and framed poetry of appreciation for special occasions including the celebration of a new baby, Mother’s Day, Fourth of July and Father’s Day.

“Faithful Vows is always there to let your loved ones know how much you care,” according to owner Faith Camp.

As a company that specializes in making creative products to remind people of their importance and value, this event is an opportunity to honor single moms for having to serve “double duty” of being both a mom and dad for their children. The event will provide “a one-stop shop” for these single moms to get pampered with massages and facials and glamorized with makeup, clothes and hair care treatments.

There will be light refreshments, raffle prizes ranging from makeovers with a $100 value, hats and spa treatments for both men and women. Various clothing, accessories, facial and makeup services can be purchased during the event. Vendors include Chandriques Handbags & Accessories, Massage Therapy by Brian and the F.A.C.E. Factory.

Ten percent of the proceeds for every sale of Faith Vows greeting cards or framed poems purchased or ordered on the premises will go towards the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in theUnited States(70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. This disease does not receive the same level of government funding for research as other health conditions. Therefore, community support is very important in their pursuit to fight this disease.

Although the event is focused on honoring single moms, it is free and open to the public ages 12 and up. Moms, Dads or just those who love their parents are invited to support a good cause, network with community members and enjoy live entertainment on June 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Roman Hair Salon in Carrollton.
