BET Awards 2012

By Kendria Brown, NDG Intern

The BET Awards ’12 were bigger and better than ever! Hosted by the wonderful Samuel L. Jackson, the Awards show brought you the best artists and performances. From the latest fashion to the after party, BET Awards ’12 was unparalleled.

Samuel L. Jackson added a lot of humor to this event, and his brilliant character made everyone feel welcome.

The highlights of the night included an extraordinary tribute to the beautiful Whitney Houston, and a MIA D’Angelo made a great comeback after being out of sight for 12 years. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly graced the stage with their “old school favorites” and received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rev. Al Sharpton provided inspiration upon receiving a well-deserved Humanitarian Award.

When Maze featuring Frankie Beverly came onto stage it was so reminiscent. It made you go back in your memories for good times even if you were born post-era of the times. HIs heartfelt performance had everyone singing along.

Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, and Chris Brown all were double recipients of awards. Other reward recipients included Wale featuring Miguel for “Best Collaboration”, Drake “Best Male Hip Hop Artist”, Nicki Minaj “Best Female Hip Hop Artist”, “Best New Artist” Big Sean, “Best Gospel” Yolanda Adams, “Best Actress” Viola Davis, and “Best Actor” Kevin Hart.

Jay Z and Kanye West were the gentlemen of the night on and off stage. They intelligibly accepted their awards with much thought, and while in audience they shined front row with their glamorous ladies Beyonce and Kim K.

Detroit’s best Big Sean was in good fashion at the awards with his mother.

In Kevin Hart’s “The Real Husbands of Hollywood” skits, he had all audiences in LA and at home laughing harder than ever. Too funny. With Sam L. Jackson and other hilarious comics, this was unmistakenly one of the best moments of the night, as audiences were able to enjoy their night even better with comedial relief.

Sizzling performances by Two Chainz and Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Usher, Wale, Big Sean, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Yolanda Adams and Melanie Fiona all gave the audience what we craved.

Nicki Minaj and Two Chainz sexed up the night with their hot performance of BITT and Usher brought much sexiness to the stage during his steamy performance and song.

Sporting and supporting a Trayvon Martin t-shirt was Jamie Foxx in attendance, who presented us with a teaser for his new upcoming film Django Unchained (the D is silent) about an escaped slave (Foxx) out to rescue his wife.

The night was filled with glorious stars and amazing tone. It was an awesome show that left the audience pleased and anticipating next year’s Awards.
