Serena Williams on Sunday evening capped off one of the best years a professional tennis player can enjoy. She defeated No. 1 ranked Victoria Azarenka to win her fourth U.S. Open title. Azarenka is expected to remain ranked No. 1, but 2012 was certainly the year of Serena.
Williams, the reigning Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medalist in singles and doubles, clawed back from a shaky second set on Arthur Ashe Stadium to earn her fourth major title in New York and 15th overall.
