Helicopter will place blossoming lotus lanterns in the lagoon at Fair Park

In preparation for the Chinese Lantern Festival, which kicks off next Friday, Sept. 28, in partnership with the 126th Annual State Fair of Texas, a helicopter will be used to place three blossoming lotus lantern sets into the lagoon at Fair Park.

The event will be on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 a.m. at the parking lot near Gate 6 and the Museum of Nature & Science at Fair Park.

The helicopter is an alternative plan to using cranes to ensure no damage occurs to any walkway at historic Fair Park. One of the lantern sets is 25 ft. tall, and to the Chinese Lantern Festival’s knowledge this is the first time a helicopter has been used to assist in building a festival of this kind.
