Dallasites expected to participate in 24/7 vigil for at-risk children

At the stroke of midnight on September 26, the Dallas faithful will take part in the largest prayer vigil worldwide to convert hearts and save lives – 40 Days for Life.  40 Days for Life is an intensive, ecumenical pro-life campaign that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil at abortion or abortion-referral facilities, and 40 days of grassroots educational outreach. The 40-day time frame is drawn from examples throughout Biblical history where God brought about world-changing transformation in 40-day periods.

Dallas is one of the many communities from coast to coast conducting simultaneous 40 Days for Life campaigns from September 26 through November 4.  Last year, over 6,000 people joined the 40 day, 24/7 vigil outside the Southwestern late-term abortion center in Dallas.  “Dallas holds the record as the largest 40-Day prayer vigil in the world.  We hope and pray that the response this year will rival the incredible witness we saw last Fall,” said Joanne Underwood, 40 Days for Life-Dallas Campaign Director.

The campaign will kick off with a Rally on September 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Harry S. Moss Park, 8000 Greenville, Dallas 75231 (SE corner of Greenville and Royal).  The evening will feature the powerful testimony of the founder of Forgotten Fathers, Frank Gray, who will share how his “story with Christ begins where two lives ended.”

In addition to Gray, speakers at the 40 Days for Life-Dallas kickoff event include: Karen Garnett, Executive Director of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee of North Texas, Aurora Tinajero, radio host of “Celebrando la Vida,” Rev. James Yamauchi of the Diocese of Dallas, and Father Seraphim Hipsh with St. Sava Orthodox Church.  Dallas band Love Absolute will be leading Praise and Worship.

This rally will begin 40 days of prayer and fasting, with special attention to prayer outside the Southwestern late-term abortion center at the northeast corner of Greenville and Royal in Dallas, as well as various types of community outreach.  “In 40 days last year, we saw 115 lives saved outside the 5 Dallas abortion centers, showing what can happen in our city when the people of Dallas gather in prayer.  We are so excited to see what God has in store for us this year!” said Underwood.
