Local progressives plan events to put pressure on Texas elected officials to avoid the fiscal cliff

U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarlng

A coalition of labor, faith and community organizations are launching their campaign to extend middle class tax cuts on Monday Dec. 10 – snow, sleet or rain. Representatives of local groups like Texas Fair Share and additional local activists are delivering petitions encouraging their representatives to set aside politics and work together to avert the fiscal cliff crisis the automatic federal budget cuts are expected to ignite.

Texas Republican Congressman Jeb Hensarling (District 5) recently went on CNN and was unable to answer critical questions about his plans to avert the fiscal cliff. (Link to video). A coalition of local Dallas groups are working together to make sure  Congressman  Hensarling – who was recently elected Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee for the next Congress – fights for the middle class and works on a balanced approach to move our country forward. They plan to rally in front of his office located in Dallas at 6510 Abrams Rd., today at Noon.

Later in the day The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, MoveOn and others plan to host a rally for economic justice outside Sen. John Coryn’s office located at 5001 Spring Valley Rd. from 4 – 6 p.m. Gene Lantz is planning to attend and has even written a Christmas Carol for the event:

Gosh darn you wealthy gentlemen
Sung to the familiar Christmas tune “God Rest you Merry Gentlemen”
Gosh darn you wealthy gentlemen your arrogance display
But Jesus Christ and everyone are watching you today
Because you harnessed Satan’s power to take our homes away
Oh trying to discomfort and annoy, Discomfort annoy, Oh trying to discomfort and annoy
Gosh darn you wealthy gentlemen You’ve trickled down the pain
You treated us like idiots, like we all have no brain
Oh you’ve been peeing on our heads and telling us it’s rain
Oh trying to discomfort and annoy, Discomfort annoy, Oh trying to discomfort and annoy
Gosh darn you wealthy gentlemen, your trillions in the banks
You brought on this recession with all your evil pranks
You think we’ll play along with you, but we just say no thanks
Oh trying to discomfort and annoy, Discomfort annoy, Oh trying to discomfort and annoy (Link to video)
