DALLAS–Rose Davison was named Dallas ISD 2013 Teacher Assistant of the Year during a reception and dinner sponsored by Central Market.

A graduate of Dallas ISD’s Sunset High School, Davidson is a teacher assistant at Dallas Environmental Science Academy where she has served the school and community for the past year.

Davidson, who is bilingual, credits her ability to communicate with parents as a vital part of student achievement.

“I strongly believe academic success begins at home. With parents and teachers partnering in our children’s education, they are achieving excellence,” said Davidson.

Seen as a teacher assistant who helps create an atmosphere of confidence and mutual respect, Davidson establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, staff members, parents and community members going that extra mile to ensure student success. Recently, she helped a frustrated parent whose child was struggling with a computer assignment. Davidson worked with the teacher to understand the assignment, then explained it to the parent and worked with the student before school and during lunch. Not only did she help the student to understand and navigate through the project, but she taught the parent as well.

Davidson has been instrumental in several school efforts including training parents on how to register and use Parent Portal and translating weekly newsletters to Spanish. She also worked with the

school’s Destination Imagination team, the CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) team and others.

In an effort to help students overcome barriers to technology, Davidson was able to help several students acquire home computers enabling them to complete assignments at home and participate in self-directed and online learning.

“I am determined to find innovative ways to help students overcome the many obstacles and challenges they face,” said Davidson.

Davidson was presented $1,500 by Central Market’s Sr. Vice President Stephen Butt. The runners up received $250 each. They were: Nancy Gonzales, Eladio R. Martinez Learning Center, Betty Martinez, Seagoville Elementary School, Cynthia Nagy, Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, and Michelle Thomas, Charles A. Gill Elementary School.
