Dallas-based theatre company, LOOK Cinemas, has announced that the second Evolution screen at its inaugural location in Dallas is now equipped with Dolby Atmos sound technology. LOOK Cinemas’ Prestonwood location features two Evolution screens showcasing exceptionally large, wall to wall, floor to ceiling screens, enhanced by Dolby Atmos, the most significant development in cinema audio since surround sound.
LOOK Cinemas’ Evolution theatres are among the first in the world built to the specifications of the Dolby Atmos sound technology.“The LOOK Cinemas experience is about providing the best movie presentation for our customers,” said Tom Stephenson, CEO of LOOK Cinemas. “The spacing of the seats, the height of the risers, the size and formatting of the screens, the headroom built into our projection and sound systems – everything was designed to insure the finest cinema presentation available. This includes utilizing the latest technology, and best practices of the industry in every area.
Dolby Atmos is an excellent example of a great technology that is forward-looking, and offers a major performance advantage.”The new dining and entertainment complex is the first project of LOOK Cinemas, LLC. LOOK founders Tom Stephenson, a notable theater industry veteran, and Brian Mason, a Dallas-based entrepreneur, have partnered with well-known restaurant entrepreneur Joseph Palladino for the inaugural project.
The Evolution experience is one of four movie experiences at LOOK Cinemas, offered alongside popular restaurants, Nick & Sam’s Grill and Coal Vines Pizza and Wine Bar (opening late summer).“With Dolby Atmos, filmmakers can place and move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, even overhead, for added realism and impact,” said Tim Schafbuch, Director of Cinema Sales for Dolby. “Moviegoers love it because they feel as if they are right in the middle of the movie action. Filmmakers love it because they can do things with sound they’ve never been able to do before. Dolby Atmos really is the evolution of sound, and we are thrilled that LOOK Cinemas has decided to install the technology in both of their Evolution screens.”
Audiences and film studios, alike, have warmly received the technology. After a successful summer season of Atmos releases (Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel, Monsters University, The Heat, Pacific Rim and Turbo), Fox’s The Wolverine is the next highly anticipated release. Coming soon are Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (August 7), Elysium(August 9) and Gravity (October 4).
