Little Elm hosting a Dive In movie on August 23

download (5)LITTLE ELM – The next Dive In Movie scheduled by the Little Elm Parks and Recreation Department is set for Friday, Aug. 23 at the Little Elm Park Beach, according to Parks and Recreation Coordinator Keri Kirkwood.

“We’re presenting ‘Sandlot’ which has proven to have incredible staying power. Although the film premiered in 1993, the story of friendship, bonding, teamwork and coming-of-age is timeless. We’re excited about presenting this wonderful film,” she said.

The free movie will start at dusk, sometime around 8:30 p.m., but beach-themed activities will start at 7:30 p.m. Among the fun attractions will be hula hoop contests, limbo dancing, balloon tossing and other participation games. Efforts are underway to include face-painting and a bounce house.

“Movie-goers can bring along lawn chairs or blankets for the beach area or floats, air mattresses and other flotation devices for wading into the lake to watch the movie,” she added.

Sandlot is rated PG and tells the story of Scotty Smalls who moves to a new neighborhood with his mom and stepdad, and wants to learn to play baseball. The neighborhood baseball guru, Benjamin Rodriguez, takes Smalls under his wing, and soon he’s part of the local baseball buddies. They fall into adventures involving baseball, treehouse sleep-ins, the lifeguard at the local pool, the snooty rival ball team, and the traveling fair. Beyond the fence at the back of the sandlot lives a legendary ball-eating dog called The Beast, and the kids inevitably must deal with him.

Food, drinks and snacks are available for purchase from the Lighthouse Grill, steps away from the beach. The main entrance to Little Elm Park Beach is 704 West Eldorado Parkway, just east of the bridge over Lake Lewisville.

Little Elm Park Beach is cooler-friendly, but does not allow glass containers nor pets, other than service animals
