Greg Abbott openly lies about redistricting fight

tdp logoAUSTIN, TEXAS – Last week Greg Abbott openly tried to rewrite the history of his defense of redistricting maps that were found by a federal court to be intentionally discriminatory against Hispanic and African-American voters. Abbott seems to hope that false talking points on the campaign trail will cover his discriminatory tracks.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement on Abbott’s blatant lies:

“As Attorney General, Abbott has spent years, and over $2.2 million dollars, defending a redistricting plan that was found by federal courts to intentionally discriminate against Hispanics and African-Americans.

That’s a mighty shameful record to deal with while trying to run for Governor. So Abbott has simply decided that he can just lie to the press, and to the people, about the truth. Just last week Abbott tried to say with a straight face that it was actually Democrats who discriminate against communities of color….because we fought hard to protect the integrity of every citizen’s vote.

We’ve seen some crazy during the Perry years, but Abbott means to take dishonesty and Tea Party antics to a whole new level. Texans deserve better than this. And we will fight until we get the Texas representation we deserve, and a Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion come 2014.”
