Dark and Lovely®, the premier hair care brand for women of color, was the exclusive backstage hair sponsor of Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR). The event took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Fredrick P. Rose Hall on September 6, 2013 during New York Fashion Week. This year’s HFR Runway Show showcased S/S14 Collections from designers Deidre Jefferies, Kimberly Goldson (former Project Runway finalist), Kahindo Mateene (current Project Runway contender) and Sandro Romans.

To complement each designer’s distinctive collections, Dark and Lovely® teamed up with Celebrity Stylist Keith Campbell to bring the hair inspirations to life. With the help of Dark and Lovely’s innovative hair products, Campbell created on-trend, fashion-forward styles to complete the runway looks.

“Dark and Lovely is proud to support HFR, a platform that helps to advance opportunities for emerging designers of color. As a leader in the multiethnic haircare industry, we’re honored to have the opportunity to celebrate the creative vision, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit of these influential designers,” said Sivonne Davis, Director of Marketing, Dark and Lovely.

How To Get The Looks:

Tease and Pop: Prep hair with Dark and Lovely’s Au Naturale Beyond Gentle Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Knot Out Conditioner (SRP $9.99/13.5 fl. Oz.). Follow up with a quarter size amount of the Au Naturale Coil Moisturizing Souffle (SRP $9.99 /14.4 oz.) to add moisture, leaving curls and coils soft and manageable. If more definition is desired, two strand twist hair in small sections and mist hair with Au Naturale Shine Sealing Nectar (SRP $9.99/5.75 fl. oz) and untwist to create volume.

Sleek Braided Ponytail: Prep textured hair with Dark and Lovely 6 Week Anti-Reversion Shampoo and Conditioner ($5.99/8.5 fl. oz.) Next, apply a quarter size amount of Dark and Lovely 6 Week Anti-Reversion Cream ($8.99/5.1 fl. oz.) into palms and massage through hair for even distribution. Blow dry and flat iron for desired straightness. For a sleek look, apply Let’s Jam Custard Gel ($4.99/4.4 oz.), pull hair back and brush it into a high ponytail. Finish off the look by braiding a single braid with length (add hair extensions for desired length). To accessorize the look, use ribbon and wrap around the base of the hair to about two inches from base of ponytail.

Braids with Afro Texture: Prep hair with Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Hydrating Soak Shampoo and Knot-Out Conditioner (SRP $9.99/13.5 fl. oz.) Next, make a cocktail with the Au Naturale Curl Defining Cream Glaze (SRP $9.99/14.4 oz.) and the Au Naturale 10-IN-1 Styles Gelee (SRP $9.99/5.3oz.) and apply to the entire head of hair. Next, part hair in 2-inch sections for braiding. Braid hair back to the middle of the head and secure each with bobby pins. For added texture, use a small amount of the cocktail used previously to scrunch the hair for volume and texture. Use a diffuser to dry. Finish off the look with a spritz or two of the Au Naturale Sheen Sealing Nectar (SRP $9.99/5.75 fl. oz.).
