DISD students participate in parade to raise awareness about pedestrian safety

walkthisway1DALLAS – Children’s Medical Center, the City of Dallas and FedEx selected Dallas ISD’s John Ireland Elementary School to host the National Safe Kids Walk this Way Parade and events on Wednesday, October 9, in honor of International Walk to School Day–an annual day dedicated to raising awareness about pedestrian safety.

The event included volunteers stationed at various pedestrian crossings with games and giveaways for children from Safe Kids and FedEx. After the start of school, students were led out to view the parade that demonstrated how children should walk safely as pedestrians.

Every year in October, millions of children from countries around the world participate in Safe Kids Walk This Way events for International Walk to School Day. The events raise community and global awareness about walking safely and promote healthy behaviors. For more information, please visit www.safekids.org.
