dpd-stock-photoThe Dallas Police Department issued a statement regarding the death of a 45 year old Latin male suspect in custody on Oct. 19. He was arrested but was taken to Parkland after showing signs of medical distress where he died later.

According to the statement at 6:40 p.m. the police responded to a Disturbance Armed Encounter on Foot call at the 3200 block of Storey Lane. He was seen fleeing, armed with a screwdriver. The police found him after he used a cinder block to break into an apartment on the 9500 block of Brockbank Drive, then he used a vase to break a front window before leaving out the apartment door.

The suspect complied when the police ordered him to stop, they handcuffed him and then he appeared to become ill. The officers indicated he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at 8:04 P.M. by Parkland Memorial Hospital personnel. Hospital personnel found a vial containing an unknown liquid substance in the suspect’s personal property.

Investigative efforts to notify the suspect’s next of kin are continuing.
