The New York Post is reporting that two New York police officers were shot by an armed robbery suspect in the Bronx Monday night.
The suspect was pulled over by the 46th precinct officers around 10:30 p.m. eastern/9:30 p.m. central. Reportedly the suspect attempted to flee the scene, but crashed their vehicle. After the crash the suspect got out of the vehicle and began shooting at officers, one was shot in the back and the other in the arm. A manhunt is underway to find the suspect who fled on foot.
The injuries are not believed to be life threatening, they are being treated at St. Barnabas Hospital.
National attention has been focused on police shootings in New York following the murder NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos by Ismaaiyl Brinsley of Baltimore who then killed himself.
Political tensions remain high between members of NYPD and Mayor Bill de Blasio, because the officers feel his support of police brutality protesters. Despite calls for them to not bring politics into the funeral proceedings of Officer Liu, some officers still turned their back quietly when the mayor spoke at the service over the weekend.
