DALLAS—A 2015 graduate of Booker Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Jane Medina, was one of 98 outstanding young student leaders from across the state who successfully completed Education in Action’s 2014-2015 Lone Star Youth Leadership Council program. Each student received a certificate of merit for their dedication to developing their leadership skills and their service to their communities.

Jane’s service project included organizing and running the Holy Trinity Learning Center Annual Carnival. Proceeds from the carnival benefited approximately 90 learning center students by purchasing significantly needed items for the center.
Members of the council participated in a Lone Star Leadership Academy, a weeklong leadership development summer camp. As graduates of this program, they were invited to join Education in Action’s alumni program, the Lone Star Youth Leadership Council, to receive leadership training during the school year. In addition to completing leadership skill-building lessons, each student identified a need in his or her community and initiated and implemented a service project of his or her choosing.
To provide an opportunity for hands-on leadership skill development, each student was required to lead at least two others in their project. Members documented their projects in an electronic presentation.
