The NAACP has launched its “America’s Journey to Justice” campaign. In conjunction with labor, environmental justice, educational, other civil rights organizations and faith-based organizations is calling for the formation of a broad coalition to march from Selma to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. in September. “America’s Journey for Justice” is an effort to persuade the leadership in Washington to adopt a policy agenda that protects the lives of Americans, the jobs of our citizenry, the people’s right to vote, and addresses the need for public school reform.
NAACP LAUNCHES “AMERICA’S JOURNEY TO JUSTICE”
The 860-mile journey started in Selma, Alabama, the state that brought the Shelby case to the Supreme Court that struck down Section 4 provisions of the Voting Rights Act. The five states (Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia) that the march will pass through have instituted voter identification laws and shortened periods for early voting.
