The Arthritis Foundation announced that it is “scaring up” overwhelming support to celebrate the 10th Annual Dallas Bone Bash, Big D’s premiere Halloween-themed costume gala benefiting the Arthritis Foundation North Texas. The spooktacular soiree is set for October 17 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Visit www.dallasbonebash.org to purchase tickets and get event details.
Founded in 2006, the Dallas event has raised more than $2 million to support the Foundation’s focus on finding a cure and championing the fight against arthritis with life-changing information, advocacy, science and community programs. In North Texas alone, there are nearly one million people, including more than 7,000 children, living with the pain of arthritis every day.
Due to its phenomenal success and popularity, there are now Arthritis Foundation Bone Bash events across the country, including 10 events scheduled in 2015. Over the course of the past decade, the Foundation has held a total of 87 Bone Bash events, which collectively raised more than $4,265,000 in the fight to end arthritis.
The local event, emceed by media personality Scott Murray, will honor Dr. W.Z. “Buz” Burkhead, Jr. and Dr. Rob Langdon, the gentlemen who started it all with the inaugural Bone Bash in Dallas, Texas. Both Drs. Burkhead and Langdon are considered experts in the medical field and are esteemed amongst the Dallas medical community.
Widely known and respected for creating the modular replacement for the shoulder, Buz Burkhead, MD has been a board certified orthopaedic surgeon practicing at The Carrell Clinic since 1983. As the author of scientific articles, book chapters and textbooks on the subject of rotator cuff and dislocating shoulder, Dr. Burkhead has lectured at both national and international conferences and holds numerous awards including the National Arthritis Foundation Medical Honoree.
Rob Langdon, MD is an emergency physician, entrepreneur and investor who co-founded T-System, Inc., a company providing charting solutions and information systems to emergency departments across the U.S. and around the world. Dr. Langdon is board certified with over 20 years of clinical practice.
Drs. Burkhead and Langdon are also singers and musicians in the all-doctor classic rock band “Doctor Doctor,” a band that performs annually at the Dallas Bone Bash and at other charitable benefits. The group is fondly known as “the only band that takes insurance.” As the original founders of the Bone Bash, Drs. Burkhead and Langdon continue to be advocates for those with a variety of orthopaedic needs by supporting the Foundation’s fight against arthritis.
“We are delighted to honor Drs. Burkhead and Langdon during this banner year,” said Cobi Gray, Regional Vice President, Development & External Relations | South Central Region. “The Bone Bash was their brainchild and thanks to their ingenuity and commitment they have inspired other medical leaders in our community, and across the country, to join the Arthritis Foundation in helping improve the quality of life for people living with arthritis pain every day.”
This year’s Dallas Bone Bash is expected to draw more than 400 guests adorned in costumes and masks, who will mingle with zombies, ghouls, witches and ghosts as they roam – or float – through the Omni Hotel during an “otherworldly” Hallows’ Eve experience.
The 2015 Dallas Bone Bash Event Co-Chairs Sharon and Paul Devereux, along with Amy and Tom Sabin, will preside over this year’s deliciously wicked gala in full theatrical regalia.
According to the co-chairs there will be an array of ghoulish games and devilish delights as guests rattle their bones to the jive and rhythms of “Doctor Doctor”, and enjoy an evening of fabulous food, fortune tellers and spooky costume contests. Highlights also include the “Bling & Bubbly Game” sponsored by Eiseman Jewels NorthPark Dallas, and Live & Silent Auction. The event will be capped off with our Key to a Cure mission moment.
